Here in Leicester we have some great, lively restaurants and put simply Wagamama is one of them. Perfect for a lively and vibrant night out for two or, as a meeting place for a social night with friends - we are regulars! Offering a true Japanese style dining experience with distinctive tastes, a balance between sweet and savoury, flaming woks dancing in the lively kitchens and the friendly faces and exceptional hospitality of the Wagamama team. Unlike the three course meal we are used to here in the UK, Japanese culture prefer the offerings of many smaller dishes and this is just one of the reasons why it’s an authentic experience that we enjoy so much.
On our recent visit we sampled a host of scrummy dishes. Starting out with the crispy fried squid with a sour chilli coriander dipping sauce and coated with shichimi; a Japanese spice blending seven ingredients and it provided a wonderful yin and yang of flavours. Our second side of duck gyoza fused five tasty and fresh duck dumplings served with a garlic and red chilli dipping sauce. Both sides were delicious and were just right to get our taste buds set up for what was to follow. For the main event we went for the yasai cha han donbori dish, a stir-fried brown rice with tofu and vegetables, egg, mushrooms, mangetout, sweetcorn and spring onions with a side of Japanese pickles. Our other main was the famous chicken itame curry which was a light chunky soup made up of spicy green coconut and lemongrass with curry rice noodles, chicken, stir-fried beansprouts, red and spring onion, bok choi, peppers, mushrooms and chillies. Light, healthy and delicious it was a meal to remember as it is each and every time we visit.
