Gordon Banks returns to the the City

With Leicester booming with sporting success throughout 2016 so far, it comes as no surprise that one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time, Gordon Banks, will be making a special appearance at his former team’s city ground this summer.

Banks will forever be remembered for his heroic part in England’s triumphant 4-2 world cup win against Germany in the 1966 final. It all began where he played for the now Premier League Champions, Leicester City, in 1959, where he remained for 8 years.

Throughout his sporting career, spanning over three decades, Banks was crowned Football Writers’ Player of the Year in 1972, but it was in England colours that he earned his place in football folklore. He will go down in history with his ‘save of the century’ in the iconic moment where he defended Pele’s header in the clash with Brazil in Guadalajara.

On Saturday July the 9th, two local Leicestershire businesses, Kong Events and Niche Magazine, will join forces to bring you a very special evening with the man himself. What’s more, ‘An Evening with Gordon Banks’ will be hosted by former professional snooker player, Willie Thorne, at the newly crowned champions ground, King Power Stadium.

The two iconic sportsmen will be celebrating the Golden Anniversary of England’s World Cup victory, and you are all invited!

This not-to-be-missed experience will include a two-course meal, a question and answer session, and a photo meet and greet opportunity with Gordon Banks himself.
