I often get asked what the best way to wash your makeup brushes is and how often this should be done. If you are using your brushes just for personal use, then washing them weekly is ideal. If you are using your brushes on other individuals as well as yourself then they should be washed after each person. I have put together a step by step guide on an effective way to wash your brushes whilst also protecting them and making them last as long as possible.
1. Fill the basin with warm water
2. Pour a small amount of baby shampoo onto your palm and gently massage the bristles in the shampoo till they lather
3. Rinse the bristles in the water until all shampoo has been removed. Ensure that you are only putting the bristles in the water as submerging too far can cause water to affect the glue which can cause bristles to come loose
4. Check that the brush is clean. Repeat steps 2 & 3 if necessary. Remove excess water and lie the brush flat to air dry. Do not place the brushes upright as this will cause water to run down the brush and loosen the glue
If you want to just spot clean between using different colour eyeshadows for example, then there are makeup brush cleansers that you can use. I like to use MAC Brush Cleanser.
I hope you have found this post useful.
