Gelato Village have triumphant Turin homecoming

The 'Via del Gelato' at Terra Madre Salone del Gusto is being held in Turin, Italy on the 22nd to 26th September 2016. This is one of the most significant international food events in the world focusing on Slow Food principles. The Via del Gelato (Street of Gelato) will take an in-depth look at real, natural gelato made from fresh ingredients by the best gelato makers on earth. Originally from Turin, this celebration will be a homecoming for Antonio De Vecchi and Daniele Taverna, co-founders of Leicester's successful Gelato Village, who have been invited to speak and showcase their craft at the event. Gelato Village's commitment to the environment and community has seen them recognised by Slow Food UK and is the reason for their invitation to the Italian celebration. Their use of the best quality ingredients which have been awarded Protected Denomination of Origin status is attracting international interest. This includes their staple Pistacchio gelato, made with Bronte pistachios grown on the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily. Since Gelato Village opened its doors in August 2014, they have been sourcing the best possible quality ingredients – from local rare breed milk to the finest Pakistani honey mangoes – to educate and delight Leicester's inhabitants with a taste of traditional Italian artisanal gelato and sorbetto making. Their beautiful gelato is crafted at their in-store laboratory and their commitment to the traditional 'Mantecazione' method of production as well as their innovative flavours has been inviting significant international attention.
