Staff from Grant Thornton Leicester spent the day painting at Shama Women’s Centre as part of the firm’s Global CSR Day.
Grant Thornton staff paint and bake in support of community projects Thirteen staff from the Leicester office of Grant Thornton have been brushing-up on their baking and decorating skills in support of local and international community projects.
As part of a global CSR Day initiative on Friday 23rd September involving Grant Thornton’s worldwide office network, the firm’s Leicester-based team took-on a community project for the city’s Sharma Women’s Centre, and fundraised for the international ‘Lend with Care’ programme.
A group of volunteers from the firm’s Regent Road office spent the day painting rooms at the Shama Women’s Centre, which for more than thirty years has provided thousands of women from different cultures and backgrounds a friendly environment to relax, gain qualifications and make new friends.
The centre is one of the community organisations supported by Leicestershire CARES, of which Grant Thornton is a long-time fundraiser and member, that brings businesses and communities together through employee volunteering in Leicestershire and Rutland.
On the same day, the Leicester office hosted an inaugural ‘Lend with Cake’ party in support of the ‘Lend with Care’ worldwide campaign operated by Care International, that works around the globe to save lives, defeat poverty and achieve social justice. Its Lend with Care campaign helps some of the world’s poorest people work their own way out of poverty with dignity, by providing small loans from £15 up to £300 to business people in developing countries. In return for a small donation for Lend with Care, Grant Thornton staff bought cakes baked and donated by their colleagues.
Practice leader of Grant Thornton’s Leicester office, Chris Frostwick, says the firm’s Global CSR Day was an opportunity for its worldwide network to come together in support of local and international communities: “On the 23rd September, our global network of member firms showcased their community involvement and impact we create together, as well as took the opportunity to widely share the success and achievement of our individual corporate, responsibility and sustainability agendas. This year, the annual CSR Day in fact ran across two days, enabling colleagues as far away as the Middle East to also participate. Together, we have been able to support a great number of important local and international community projects.” Grant Thornton staff who took part in the CSR Day were: Amy Pilgrim, Abbie Henshaw, Sharee M Grant, Panna Dosanjh, Darshna Raithatha, Elise Turner, Eloise Horton, Edward Cox, Ishan Sharda, Claire Wright, Dhaval Joshi, Umair Desai and Julie Armstrong.
