Harborough health centre launches new drive to promote workplace wellbeing A natural health centre in Market Harborough has created a new position in a push to tackle the health problems that are caused in the workplace. Tracy Dixon-Maynard, a qualified chiropractor, has taken on the role of Director of Workplace Health & Wellbeing at Archway Health Hub. Tracy is the founding owner of Positura, an ergonomic and health assessment company that works with businesses and individuals to ensure compliance with legislation, helping to prevent health problems in the workplace. “I’m thrilled to be taking on this new role. There is plenty that can be done and I’ve already made a start by speaking to several local companies,” comments Tracy. “Many employers that offer desk-based work are unaware that there are strict regulations that they are legally bound to fulfill – and don’t realise that they are breaking the rules by not having a check.” According to Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992, employers are expected to assess the risksassociated with using display screens. This involves anyone who works more than an hour a day at a display screen. Suitable and sufficient analysis of the workstation must be carried out by ensuring that workplaces are well designed, workers have adequate rest breaks and know what to do to reduce the risks. Health and Safety Executive figures found that an estimated 9.5 million working days were lost between 2014 and 2015 in the UK through musculoskeletal disorders that were work-related. “The average person spends around 2,000 hours a year at work, so it is important that we ensure that workstations are set up correctly to prevent any health problems,” explains Alec Welton, owner of Archway Health Hub. “We’ve worked with Tracy for a number of years now, so when we thought about creating this role, she was the natural choice.” Archway Health Hub, based on Lubenham Hill, is the largest centre of its kind in the East Midlands. The centre offers a range of services including acupuncture, chiropractic and sports massage.
