Urban Antidote comes to Highcross, Leicester

A new pop-up gallery is opening in Leicester’s Highcross Shopping Centre this week.

Urban Antidote is a funky spin-off from established gallery Antidote Art, based in Lutterworth. Taking a sideways glance at traditional private galleries, Urban Antidote will provide unique pieces at affordable prices. The gallery has teamed up exclusively in the East Midlands with Wishbone Publishing to bring the top names in modern and contemporary art to Leicester.

As well as providing the perfect place to browse for Christmas gifts, with artists such as JJ Adams, Paul Oz, Zombie Dan, Courty and Richard Blunt represented, Urban Antidote will provide a lively environment where city dwellers and shoppers can socialise.

‘We are not your usual gallery,’ said Sara Lovatt, gallery owner, ‘Urban Antidote will be a hub for arts and entertainments of all kinds – after work drinks with live DJs, local performance artists, flash mobs – we want this pop-up to be a fun place to chill, not a boring white cube.’

The official launch evening promises to live up to Sara’s promises, with internationally renowned contemporary artist Lincoln Townley due to make an appearance. Lincoln Townley, husband of actress and talkshow star Denise Welch, is returning from his presentation of a series of customised portraits for BAFTA in Los Angeles. His retrospective at the Saatchi Gallery last year sold out within three hours at the private viewing.

Entertainment at the invitation-only launch celebration on Friday 17th November will be provided by X Factor star and Leicester favourite, Mason Noise. Local brewery, Steamin’ Billy will be providing refreshments for art lovers. ‘And we have much more up our sleeves’, Sara says, ‘sign up to our mailing list to stay up to date with announcements of our exclusive events as they are released.’

Urban Antidote has also welcomed a new sponsor on board. Parify are an LED lighting specialist who are bringing the perfect in-store ambience to the pop up to give customers not just access to the best art, but also the best way to showcase their art at home, using high quality products made to the highest standards right here in Leicester - http://parify.unity-dev.co.uk.
