Charity Link receives Leicester Comedy Festival Community Award

On Monday 26 March Charity Link were delighted to receive the 'Community Award' at the annual Leicester Comedy Festival Awards, in recognition of the charity's 'A Bellyful of Laughs' event, which took place at The Fish & the Chip restaurant in February.

The charity works throughout Leicester, Leicestershire, Rutland and Northamptonshire to help improve the lives of local people facing hardship. They believe that all local people deserve a decent standard of living, with a right to adequate food, shelter and the means to keep warm, clean and rested – no matter what crisis, illness, disability or difficulty they may be facing.

Charity Link were delighted to accept the award at the newly reopened Haymarket Theatre along with local comedian Anthony King. Anthony has been with the organisation over the eight years it has been running the event and not only performs himself, he also finds other performers and gives invaluable advice.

The charity leaders described the awards night as fantastic, saying it was great to have the opportunity to hear from radio and TV presenter Nicholas Parsons who was presented with the ‘Legend of Comedy’ Award.

Charity Link took the chance to thank Anthony and the other comedians who performed on the night; Graeme Collard, Dave Fensome, Jules Oliver and Phil Lucas, along with Aatin Anadkat and the team at The Fish & The Chip for making the night such a success.

They also thanked each and every one of the people and companies who has supported A Bellyful of Laughs, not only in 2018 but also in previous years. They have helped to raise nearly £10,000 for local people in hardship and crisis.

Charity Link are already looking forward to A Bellyful of Laughs 2019 - they hope to see you there!
