Crowndale Foods opens new premises in Whetstone

Celebs from Leicester gathered last Friday at food and drink wholesalers Crowndale Foods in Whetstone, to officially opening the company's brand new premises.

Singer-songwriter Jersey Budd, former professional footballer Steve Walsh, and former world middleweight champion boxer Chris Pyatt came together with the company's employees, friends, customers and suppliers to cut the ribbon and celebrate Crowndale's progression.

The move was made on May 21 and has been very successful according to Paul Stephens who joined the company in February at the old Pullman Road site.

He said: "We decided to officially open the unit on July 6 inviting long term friends and customers of Crowndale.

"It was plain to see the old unit had been outgrown and we decided another move was needed. We then found Ashville Way in Whetstone, which would double the size of our previous depot."

The local business, which sells to and sources from only Leicestershire locals, was started over 30 years ago by John Boulger in Chartwell Drive before moving to Pullman Road, Wigston. The food group began predominantly as a cooked meat, cheese and bacon supplier.

As the company has grown and the product range has changed to suit customers needs Crowndale now has a vast range of chilled, ambient, and frozen foods supplying schools, universities, cafés, pubs, and many more.
