Leicester Riders will face Bakken Bears in the opening round of the qualification rounds of the Basketball Champions League.
16 time domestic champions Bakken Bears will visit the Morningside Arena on September 20th before Rob Paternostro's side travel out to Aarhus, Denmark on September 22nd.
The Danish side were semi-finalists in last year's FIBA Europe Cup competition and Michael Piloz's team will prove a challenging opponent for the BBL League Champions.
Leicester Rider's Managing Director Russell Levenston and Paternostro are now hard at work building a side capable of challenging both domestically and on the European front in the 2018/19 season.
Fan favourite Conner Washington returned to the fold yesterday ironically after spending a season with Danish side FOG Naestved. Averaging 8.8 points per game and 3.9 assists starting 19 out of his team’s 25 games in his first stint playing overseas basketball.
Coach Rob Paternostro was thrilled to have Washington back in his roster telling the Leicester Riders official Website:
“We are looking forward to seeing Conner back in a Riders Uniform next season. He was always a very popular player with everyone here. He won 9 trophies and was a key contributor to some great teams. His speed, shooting, and playmaking ability were very effective in his time with us".
Riders have already announced that American guard JR Holder and veteran England international Andy Thomson have re-signed for the new season.
