Leicestershire and Rutland based cancer research charity Hope Against Cancer is calling on music lovers to pledge their support and attend “Hope Fest” on July 6th at Broom Leys Farm, Coalville. The organiser of this music festival, Charlie Devonport, has managed to secure 16 live acts, including an ABBA and Oasis tribute band. The festival will see all proceeds go to Hope Against Cancer.
Charlie, 22, from Coalville, started fundraising for cancer charities in 2016 after his father was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma and his aunt was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. This was an especially hard year for Charlie, when his father finished his last round of chemotherapy, his aunt started hers the following day.
Hope Against Cancer has held a place in Charlie’s heart because his father took part in a trial at their Clinical Trials Facility at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, the trial was a success and saw him be free of cancer in just three months.
This isn’t the first music event that Charlie has organised, however this year he wanted to step it up a notch and organise a festival to raise money for Hope: “Hope Against Cancer helped my family when they needed it, now my dad is cancer free and it’s because of their clinical trials. So, I wanted to help them in return with an event that could be enjoyed by all. Every year the festival gets bigger and I intend to keep it going.”
Hope Against Cancer fund cutting edge research and have made the clinical trials available to local people. The Chief Executive at Hope Against Cancer, Nigel Rose has said: “Everyone at Hope is really excited about this festival, it’s a great opportunity to have fun whilst raising money for a good cause. We’re overjoyed to have this kind of support behind us from Charlie and the Leicestershire community who are buying tickets.”
Charlie has a target to raise £6,000, so if you want to help him, then you can purchase a ticket for just £1, children can go free. The festival will take place from 12:30pm until 10pm and free parking is also available alongside an outdoor bar, food, an inflatable zone, craft stalls and even a funfair.
