The East Midlands’ 200 fastest growing and most profitable privately-owned businesses will be unveiled in a report produced using analysis by business and financial advisors Grant Thornton.
The 2019 edition of Grant Thornton’s East Midlands Top 200 Report, produced by the firm’s regional office in Leicester in association with the CBI, HSBC and Macildowie, will launch at a series of breakfast events across the region next month (September).
Produced annually since 2013, the Report tracks the fortunes of the East Midlands’ regional economy.
The 2019 Report will identify the 200 businesses with their UK base in the region that have delivered the greatest, sustained growth in profit, as well as deliver unique insights about the local business landscape.
“The East Midlands Top 200 Report gives unique insights into the region’s fastest growing companies by key sector and performance indicators, providing a barometer of economic performance,” explains Mark Pashley, Tax Director at Grant Thornton’s Leicester office. “Early analysis of the 2019 data indicates the region’s fastest growing companies have grown profits by over 12 percent per annum over the last three years.
“The breakfast events will provide an opportunity to learn more about the Report’s insights, enable leaders of these high growth businesses to meet, share views and network, and also hear from one of the Top 10 in the Top 200 as part of the panel discussion.”
Since 2013, the East Midlands Top 200 Report has provided unique analysis of the financial performance of the 200 businesses in Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire that have delivered the greatest sustained growth in profit before tax, interest, exceptional items and Directors’ remuneration.
As well as identifying the trends and challenges faced by the region’s top performing businesses, the 2019 Report will reveal the top performing business sectors by turnover and employment growth, and also examine growth in average compound employee wage.
Partner at Grant Thornton and corporate finance specialist John Bryant, who is based at the firm’s new Nottingham office, comments: “We already know that one company has made it onto the top 200 list for six out of the last seven years since the report launched in 2013, which is an impressive achievement, especially given the tight criteria for sustained profit growth required for companies to be included.
“Whilst businesses continue to be unsettled by economic uncertainty, early analysis suggests that East Midlands firms are getting on with making positive decisions, and that the regional economy is healthy and continuing to grow, with a combined annual turnover in the Top 200 this year of £18.6 billion,” he adds.
Tom Copson, Audit Director at Grant Thornton’s Leicester office, says: “It will be interesting to see the full figures and detailed insights when we unveil the report at the launch events in Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire.
“The East Midlands Top 200 Report provides the region’s only in-depth study into the East Midlands’ fastest growing companies by key sector and performance indicators, to deliver a unique barometer of the region’s overall economic performance, level of job creation, and most profitable market sectors and industries,” says Tom, “and these events are a great opportunity to find out more.”
Grant Thornton will reveal the full findings of the 2019 East Midlands Top 200 Report at breakfast events on Tuesday 17 September at Stubton Hall, Lincolnshire, Thursday 19 September at Winstanley House, Leicester, and our joint Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire event on Friday 20 September at Nottingham Belfry. All events will run from 8.00am to 10.30am.
