Local businesses are invited to take part in Leicestershire’s largest Careers Speed Networking event. Registration can be completed online.
More than 150 employers are needed to ‘speed network’ with over 300 students from 20 schools and colleges, at the event which takes place on 8 November 2019, from 9am to 2.30pm. Leicester Racecourse in Oadby will once again play host to Careers Speed Networking (CSN), which has grown year-on-year since its inception in 2016.
The event sees students engaging with real-world employers – possibly for the first time in their lives – with each mini meeting lasting six minutes. CSN is part of Leicester Business Festival. It is designed to enable students to network with as many businesses as possible, to give them a wide variety of encounters and experiences.
For businesses, CSN is a chance to engage with education, and meet the workforce of tomorrow. Many industry sectors remain shrouded in mystery to young people, so CSN gives employers a chance to open their eyes to new career possibilities.
Gerarde Manley, LLEP Careers Hub Manager, said: “If you’re a business owner, an entrepreneur or an industry leader, we’re offering you the chance to get involved!
“We want as many businesses as possible to take part, to give the young people who come as varied a flavour of business in Leicester and Leicestershire as possible.
“The event is arranged so that this variety shines through. A student could be talking to a chemical engineer at one station, a logistics company at the next, followed by a wholesaler of baked goods. The diversity of our local economy is something we’re very proud of at the LLEP, and Careers Speed Networking aims to put this on display.”
Dr Nik Kotecha OBE, Chief Executive of Morningside Pharmaceuticals, which is headline sponsor of the event, said: “The young people attending this event are at an important crossroads, on the verge of making decisions that will affect their future career paths.
“If you run a business, it’s a chance to give something back to the community, and to make a small investment in the future that could end up paying huge dividends.
“This event is a really excellent opportunity to connect with your potential future workforce, and to show them the benefits of a career in your sector.”
