Given the current circumstances facing our whole economy, and particularly hospitality, businesses have been forced to show initiative and adapt in order to survive. Stuart Broad's pub The Tap & Run in Upper Broughton has decided to return a section of the dining area to its former glory as it was indeed once upon a time a village shop. Stuart, who recently returned home after England's tour to Sri Lanka was cut short, said: "We are really keen to try to give something back to the local community which has been so supportive and welcoming since we opened." Harry Gurney, co-director, said: "For me the important thing here is to try to provide a meaningful income for our team during this crisis. The last thing we want are job losses or people struggling to make ends meet on statutory sick pay. The new village shop and deli, and our recently launched take-away menu will hopefully help us tick over during this turbulent time." Work is already underway on the conversion and the team are hopeful that they will open the doors to the shop over the weekend starting with a small range which they hope to grow over the coming weeks and months, ideally stocking lots of locally sourced products. Jack Whitehead, general manager said: "BBC East Midlands Today are here on Monday doing a feature on this, I might tip them off so they can come early and see Stuart with this drill out putting shelves up!" The operation at The Tap & Run is expected to sell dairy products, chilled meals, bakery products, dry store products, fruit and veg, confectionary and pre-prepared meals that customers can take home and heat up themselves. They intend to offer a delivery service which will be free to over 70s and NHS workers within a certain radius.
