CANTEEN Announce Residency at LCB Depot with February Launch Party
Following on from last December’s highly successful event; we can confirm that Street Food evening, CANTEEN, will run on the last Friday of every month at the LCB Depot in Leicester City Centre from 5pm-11pm. Entry is free and children are allowed until 9pm. To celebrate, there is a launch party on 24 February, featuring some of the best traders in the UK, including the winner of the British Street Food Awards 2016, Baked in Brick. The venue is also hosting the Leicester Comedy Festival on the same evening so customers can also enjoy some great stand up with “Comedy at the Canteen”.
CANTEEN is a partnership between LCB Depot, Grays Cafe and a Midlands Events Organiser. They felt it was the right time to give their hometown of Leicester a regular event, featuring the cream of the crop of the UK’s street food traders which will change every month. The joint mission is to help increase the attractiveness and lifestyle of the Leicester’s best kept secret, the CQ (Cultural Quarter). CANTEEN will be a place for friends and families, creative types, city residents, students and stressed out city workers to mingle and have a great evening.
The name CANTEEN was chosen to reflect the venues original use as a bus depot which is now home to over 40 thriving creative businesses. The event incorporates great food from a variety of traders, A DJ playing funk/disco music, a fully stocked bar, a separate Sailor Jerry cocktail bar and plenty of seating throughout the venue. An after party will also be held nearby for those who want to carry on the vibe to the early hours.
CANTEEN is committed to providing the best traders which have to adhere to strict guidelines on hygiene, local sourcing, minimal food wastage and sustainability, with the CANTEEN team also taste testing each of the traders' dishes at various street food events across the UK to ensure the very best traders are brought to Leicester. There is also a commitment to ensure that a local Leicester street food trader is included in the line up each month and the team will be looking to mentor any locals who are just starting out on creating a street food business. Each trader will also have a vegetarian/vegan option.

British Street Food Awards 2016: Winners of “Best Main Course” and overall “Best of the Best “
Lee DeSanges studied catering at University College Birmingham. He learnt his trade at “Le Cote D’or” and also had stints at “Le Manoir aux Quatre Saisons”. A few years ago he decided to start out on the street food scene and introduced the world to his outstanding 24 hour marinated Chicken Tikka, cooked over charcoals with freshly baked flatbreads from a converted 1964 Mini Cooper.
One of Birmingham’s original street food traders, having started in the 90s with the Happy Noodle Company, Canoodle are now regular residents at the award winning Digbeth Dining Club; Birmingham’s number one street food event. Specialising in Pan-Asian food, they will always have something new to tempt you along with old favourites. Everything at Canoodle is made from scratch without resorting to any bought-in curry pastes or sauces so you can be sure you will receive high quality restaurant standard food, whatever you choose. All of Canoodles curries are dairy, gluten and nut free.
Hailing from Leicestershire, this outfit are excellent purveyors of South American inspired street food & BBQ, with a twist. They serve fresh and tasty dishes straight from their 1973 Citroen H Van. As a family run business they take great care in sourcing as many local ingredients as possible to produce food that we all love to eat.
Based in the LCB depot; Grahame and the team have been bringing fresh seasonal food to Leicester since 2013. Canteen gives Grays the chance to do extra special dishes that normally wouldn’t feature on their usual menus, perfectly complementing the other traders. We look forward to seeing what they come up with!
Victoria Creperie is a family run business with over 50 years experience and knowledge in catering. They specialise in desserts and arguably have some of the best sweet treats on the street food scene. Customers can watch while their crepes are made fresh to order with some great options to satisfy the sweetest of tastes!
