Staff volunteers from Joules planted 260 saplings at Fosse Meadows Nature Reserve as part of the Leicestershire lifestyle brand’s first Team Challenge for Leicestershire Cares.
A team of 11 from the Joules Show Team spent a day at the nature reserve near Sharnford, first clearing brash and burning it before planting the young trees.
Leicestershire Cares Team Challenges see volunteers from local businesses give their time and energy to help community groups and charities. Joules, based in Market Harborough, is set to tackle eight Team Challenges in 2017.
Other Team Challenges already planned by Joules include a return to Fosse Meadows, helping clear the River Soar of litter and redeveloping an outside area at Redmoor Academy in Hinckley.
Kate Heslegrave, manager of the brand’s community support activity Charitably Joules, said: “We are thrilled to be working with Leicestershire Cares.
“Leicestershire forms an important part of Joules’ heritage – the business was born here some 30 years ago, and our head office has remained here as the business has grown from strength to strength – and so we’re delighted to support our local communities to continue to grow and prosper.”
James Poynton, green space engagement officer at Blaby District Council, said: “It is always a pleasure to host a team organised by Leicestershire Cases.
“It is a great morale booster for our volunteers that are here every week. Having an enthusiastic team of 11 volunteers for the day from Joules has made a significant difference to the meadows. The whole team of volunteers managed to clock up 90 man hours of work in just one day.
“Their efforts ensure vital equipment can be purchased to support volunteer work across our district. We look forward to the next team from Joules in the coming weeks.”
Joules’ team leader at Fosse Meadows was Charlotte Bennett, planning manager in the show team which represents Joules at shows and other events where it has a presence. Charlotte said: “The team had a great day at Fosse Meadows with Leicestershire Cares. It was fantastic to spend the day appreciating the great outdoors and we really enjoyed doing our bit for our wonderful local spaces.”
Sarah Green, community development manager at Leicestershire Cares, said: “We are thrilled that Joules has joined as a business member of Leicestershire Cares. The team achieved a huge amount at Fosse Meadows and we look forward to a busy year of Joules staff volunteering and achieving great things.”
