Cultural harmony with Nevill Holt Opera and Hambleton Hall

May 3, 2017

You have joined your parents at Glyndebourne, organised a romantic date at Grange Park Opera, now this summer you need to rally a group of friends together and head to the glorious Leicestershire countryside to enjoy Puccini’s Tosca at the Nevill Holt Opera Festival in Market Harborough.

Tosca will be performed at this small-but-perfectly-formed festival, in the grounds of historic Nevill Holt Estate on 15th, 17th, 18th, 20th and 22nd June 2017 by Giselle Allen, who has been revered by critics; “It's hard to praise Giselle Allen enough - an unstinting portrayal, physically and emotionally."

Nevill Holt Opera is special due to “our belief in nurturing young opera stars” says general manager Rosenna East, combined with the most intimate setting of the five countryside operas in England. Leicester and Leicestershire Tourism Awards concur and awarded the NHO “Best Festival and Entertainment” in 2016 thanks to its “growth, engagement with community and work with young people.”

Where to stay?

In cultural harmony with the intimate and historic setting of the Nevill Holt Opera is the region’s finest country house hotel, Hambleton Hall.  Enjoying an excellent location on the Hambleton Peninsular overlooking Rutland Water, the hotel is acclaimed for its Michelin star restaurant and convivial service.  This luxury 17-bedroom bolthole is highly sought after, so book ahead for a perfectly paired night away. Hambleton Hall’s owner Tim Hart has long enjoyed the local opera, saying; “Nevill Holt has a magical hill-top setting and remarkable record in staging exciting and memorable productions of great operas”.

“A Night at the Opera” can be booked for 18th June through Hambleton Hall with rates starting from £485 for two people which includes a double room, one pair of top-tier tickets (performance is at 3.30pm), a full Hambleton breakfast, complimentary newspaper, wifi and VAT. Contact the reception team to enquire.

Hambleton Hall can assist with transfers to Nevill Holt, luxury picnics and other activities in the area during your stay.

About Nevill Holt Opera and the house

Created in 2013, the NHO is the brainchild of Carphone Warehouse founder David Ross in the grounds of his elegant Grade-I listed, private home, the Nevill Holt Estate.  Previously inhabited by the Nevill family for 400 years, the house boasts an impressive collection of modern British sculpture, which is on display to the public and formal landscaped gardens, designed by Chelsea Gold Medal winner Rupert Golby.

While enjoying the opera festival, guests may enjoy first rate pre-opera canapés, high tea, picnics or an exquisite meal in a private pavilion. If joining a group, make the most of the private dining for 14 guests in the Font House.
