Two Queens are pleased to announce the launch of our next exhibition ‘Medieval-City One’.
Inspired by Leicester’s recent reinvention as a hotspot for fans of the medieval period, following the discovery of Richard III’s remains, Medieval City One is a group exhibition and series of events that seeks to think about the past and the future. Taking its title from Judge Dredd’s Mega-City One, the project invites contemporary artists to imagine a proposed city state formed from appropriated remnants of the medieval past. Visitors can expect to see newly commissioned films and sculptures relating to themes from the medieval period and ideas of bureaucracy, colonialism, immigration, ethnicity and tourism.
This exhibition is part of a programme of exhibitions and events at Two Queens across 2016-18 kindly supported by public funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England, Leicester City Council and De Montfort University.
