If you’re planning a weekend away your first thoughts may be somewhere a few hours away… by the beach… maybe a cute cottage… so we forgive you for perhaps not having considered Daventry, Northamptonshire in your weekend plans. But these are all the reasons why you definitely should.
1) The perfect stay
The Mercure Daventry Court Hotel & Spa has recently undergone a huge refurbishment to its bedrooms and spa treatment rooms making it our top recommended place to stay in the East Midlands.
Not only is the hotel perfect for those who love a more traditional space with its beautiful courtyard and varnished wood reception, marble floor tiles and pillars – it’s definitely full of character – but it’s also perfect for those looking for a quiet stay in a modern and ultra-fresh environment.
The new bedroom design reflects Daventry’s breath-taking natural location and reservoirs with a grass green and crisp white theme, and striking wall art representing the reeds and grasslands found just a walk away by the reservoirs.
Outstanding new bathrooms feature quirky, contemporary facilities such as rain showers, and toiletries to make your stay that much more comfortable – besides the startlingly snug, luxury Queen sized beds that you will not want to move from paired with 42 inch flat screen TV and free WiFi.
Privilege rooms include fridges, Nespresso coffee machines, bathrobes, and 47 inch TVs.
And large window views remind guests of the beautiful emerald landscape that surrounds them.
2) Plenty to do
Daventry is full of magnificent hilly countryside that makes for an incredible drive with stunning views and close by fields home to farm animals and lots of beautiful areas for walking including Daventry Country Park, Cracks Hill and Everdon Stubbs that are perfect for dog walkers, couples and families to explore the magical settings.
Heritage sites in the area include Daventry museum and the significant Naseby Battlefield.
The hotel's spa area has a well-equipped fitness centre. It features different cardio machines and free weights, a sauna, steam room, hot tub, and elegant heated in-door pool area that’s bright and airy with the gentle heat of the sun shining through.
The best way to truly relax in Daventry though is with a treatment in one of the hotel’s brand new treatment rooms added to the Spa Naturel facilities. The rooms, again, reflect Daventry’s nature and waterways in more neutral tones, dimly lit and smelling divine. Treatments are all specifically tailored to guests needs whether they have skin concerns or muscular complaints. The therapists are extremely experienced in all treatments and provide an exceptionally relaxing yet effective facial and back massage using top end products such as Decléor.
3) Incredible food
Along with an extensive refurbishment to the bedrooms and treatment rooms, The Mercure Daventry Court Hotel & Spa has had a brand new restaurant menu. Inside the bar and through to the restaurant, the theme follows on from the reception room and isbright and spacious with a lovely atmosphere created by the waiting staff who seem very passionate about customer service and creating the perfect dining experience.
The new menu include starters such as breaded halloumi with a unique tasting tangy tomato sauce presented on a slate, and homemade vegetable soup with homemade melt-in-the-mouth bread.
For mains, the menu offers some fantastic classics such as a generous portion of macaroni cheese in a light sauce with garlic bread cooked to a perfect toasted middle and crunchy outer edge, and supreme of chicken on a bed of potato gnocchi smothered in flavourful tomato and mascarpone sauce and topped with crisp fried pancetta.
Breakfast is a phenomenal feast of full English options, quirky cereals and smoothies through to pastries, meats and cheeses, and a huge range of drinks.
So, there really is no need to leave the region for your future getaways!
