Staying in Edinburgh at the Apex: things to do

December 20, 2018

When the winter season gets on top of us making us feel groggy, podgy and cold, we say: embrace it! Go all out and go to Edinburgh. We make our way to the Scottish capital every New Year because it’s a Christmassy, wintery holiday that allows you to truly break away from everyday life.

This time, we stayed at the Apex Grassmarket Hotel in the city’s Old Town close to iconic attractions and theatres. The pictures speak for themselves: this is a stylish, unique place to stay. The centrally located 4-star hotel has a romantic, festive atmosphere making it perfect for couples. But, it’s also perfect for business too. With its popping colours and sleek furnishings, businesspeople feel right at home as well as energised. Its luxurious look is enough to make anyone feel special at the beginning of the year when you’re perhaps not feeling quite your best.

When we woke up, the beautiful views instantly put you in a warm, enthusiastic mood to get up and enjoy Edinburgh life. The markets were exactly what we love about the city and to have one right on your doorstep immerses you immediately and completely.

But first: breakfast! The staff are simply incredible; so friendly and welcoming, and always going the extra mile. We had the delicious eggs Benedict and it safely secures No #1 position of any breakfast we’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing – no matter how extravagant or simple compared.

On to things to do! The Grassmarket is the hub of Edinburgh’s Old Town and that’s where you’ll find the Apex City of Edinburgh Hotel, looking up to Castle Rock and Edinburgh Castle, the backdrop of the Military Tattoo. You can walk anywhere in the city centre from here and it’s exceptionally convenient for the transport links at Waverley Train Station, buses around the city and Old Town attractions. The high street shops of Princes Street and George Street are just a short walk away and you’ll be just a 10-minute walk from The King’s Theatre or The Festival Theatre. it is minutes from the ever-popular Royal Mile and the café where JK Rowling first penned her iconic young wizard, and has fine Scottish produce at the heart of its sumptuous Metro Bar & Brasserie menu. During festival time, there’s no better location than Apex City of Edinburgh Hotel. Also enjoying great castle views, it’s right in the centre of the historic Old Town. Its dining is also exceptional with the sleek design of Agua Restaurant & Bar complementing and enhancing its succulent menu selections.

Back to the hotel! We were treated to a luxury suite that comprised of a living area, bedroom area, and bathroom. It was without doubt the most stylish suite we’ve stayed in and the only place where we’ve felt utterly at home. Apex fills your room with goodies supplied by Elemis – an actual dream come true! I was especially excited by these as the Elemis scent always makes me feel incredibly happy and relaxed! Over at the Apex Waterloo Place Hotel, we decided to stroll casually past the state-of-the-art gym and made our way over to the pool, sauna, and steam room. The spa is run by Pure Spa & Beauty – and truly pure and beautiful it is!

All in all, our annual Scotland trip granted every wish we could have dreamed of.
