New appointment announced at established Birmingham engineering practice

July 22, 2019

BUILDING Services Design (BSD) has had a presence in Birmingham for more than 10 years and its experienced team of mechanical and electrical engineers has now grown to 12 following the appointment of electrical engineer Nathan Johnstone.

Nathan brings 15 years’ experience to the national engineering practice, having worked across the West Midlands both contractor and consultancy side.

“I’m delighted to have joined BSD’s growing electrical engineering team at the Fort Dunlop office and look forward to strengthening the established practice’s engineering offering,” said Nathan.

“I have both practical and design experience, meaning that I know how to keep projects on time and within given cost parameters – creatively approaching briefs to deliver buildings which are energy efficient and aesthetically pleasing.

“What attracted me to BSD initially was the culture – it has a close-knit, supportive team – and its strong reputation in the region. The company has also been incredibly supportive of studies as, while I’m not working, I’m studying for a degree in engineering from the Open University.

“I’m looking forward to progressing the BLOC Hotel scheme at Grand Central and assisting the team with a number of store redesigns for a large supermarket chain.”

BSD has eight UK offices, employing more than 70 mechanical and electrical engineers, who work across numerous sectors including commercial office spaces, residential, leisure and education.

Joel Sawyer, director at BSD said: “Nathan’s appointment has come at a good time for us, as we continue to expand our offering and develop the team’s specialisms.

“As well as the BLOC Hotel scheme, the Birmingham office is also working on the multi-million-pound Freeman’s Common Student Village in the East Midlands, which, when complete, will house 1,200 students.

“I’d like to wish Nathan the best of luck in his new role and look forward to working closely with him on our varied portfolio of projects across the region – and the country.”
