Leicester is one of the top five cities in the world with the most Indian restaurants.
Leicester has been crowned a global hotspot for Indian cuisine, with the second widest selection of Indian restaurants per capita in the world outside of India.
Coming in at second place in a list of the top five cities with the most Indian restaurants, Leicester boasts an impressive 234 Indian restaurants according to the research by Remitly.
With eating out being something the whole world enjoys doing, Remitly wanted to find out which cities are the best for particular cuisines outside of the countries they hail from.
Jago McKenzie, Head of Region, UK at Remitly commented: “Food is central to any culture around the world and one of the main things that people miss when moving to a new country is that taste of home.
"As food evokes such strong emotions, we wanted to look at which cities truly offer the culinary variety that our nomadic species craves. It’s great to see such variety in our study with cities from Europe, Asia, and North America featuring heavily at the top of the list.
"As people are thinking about where to move to or visit in 2022, we hope our findings will help inspire and educate as to the power and benefits of immigration on the culinary offerings of cities around the world. At the very least it’s given us a long list of cities and restaurants to visit.”
The research revealed that Valencia is best for Indian food (marginally above Leicester).
In first place is Valencia, Spain. With a population of 800,215 and 423 Indian restaurants.
Newcastle, UK; Brussels, Belgium, and Dubai, UAE, also made the top five list.
