There’s a particular energy to the 64th edition of Salone del Mobile Milano - a sense that design is no longer confined to categories, but is instead unfolding as a continuous dialogue between spaces, technologies, and ways of living. This year’s exhibitions feel less like separate showcases and more like a living ecosystem, where ideas flow freely between the home, the workplace, and the hybrid environments in between.

At the center of this experience are the four annual exhibitions: the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, the International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition, Workplace3.0, and S.Project. Together, they bring forward a layered vision of contemporary living, one shaped by material experimentation, adaptability, and an increasing awareness of sustainability.

Adding a more narrative dimension to the fair is Aurea, an architectural installation by Oscar Lucien Ono and his studio Maison Numéro 20. Conceived as an imaginary hotel, the project unfolds through a sequence of immersive spaces where light becomes a central material - filtered, reflected, and sculpted to create atmosphere.

Emerging voices also take the spotlight through SaloneSatellite, where over 700 designers under the age of 35 present their work. This year’s theme, centered on craftsmanship and innovation, reflects a renewed appreciation for the handmade, all reimagined through contemporary tools and technologies. The result is a compelling exchange between tradition and experimentation, where making by hand becomes both a cultural statement and a forward-looking design approach.

The biennial exhibitions further expand the conversation. EuroCucina, alongside FTK – Technology For the Kitchen, reveals how deeply technology is reshaping one of the most intimate spaces of the home. Kitchens are becoming responsive environments, capable of learning user habits, adjusting settings, and integrating seamlessly into open-plan living areas. Materials feel more tactile and responsible, while smart systems bring a new level of personalization, from lighting and temperature to cooking and storage.

In parallel, the International Bathroom Exhibition explores the growing desire for spaces centered on wellbeing. Bathrooms are evolving into calming, spa-like environments where comfort, durability, and sensory experience are carefully balanced. Thoughtful details, such as ergonomic forms, layered lighting, and water-efficient technologies, will reflect a design approach that considers both present needs and long-term use.

Across all exhibitions, a shared direction becomes clear: design is increasingly about connection. Between people and spaces, between tradition and innovation, and between aesthetics and performance. At Salone del Mobile Milano, these connections come to life, shaping a vision of living that feels both grounded and forward-looking.
