Record breaking GCSE results for Leicester Grammar School

A fantastic set of results for this year's cohort of LGS students.

Leicester Grammar School’s (LGS) 119 GCSE pupils have achieved the best results in the school’s history (outside the pandemic years): 63.2% of all grades were at [9] or [8] (the old A* equivalent), with 80.4% between [9] and [7] (the old A*/A equivalent).

The overall pass rate was 99.6%.

With 40.8% of passes at the coveted grade [9], 19 pupils were rewarded with ten or more, and Arnav Bhavsar, Zahra Hardman, Siyana Kotecha and Arvind Kulkarni celebrated that top grade in 12 subjects, including Italian and Further Maths.

Over one third of the cohort (37 pupils) achieved grades [9] or [8] in at least nine subjects.

LGS pupils enjoy participation in a huge array of activities beyond the classroom, including music, sport, drama, charity-fundraising, community service and the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Alongside at least 10 top grades apiece, Emily Boddy has been awarded a national Arkwright Engineering Scholarship for the Sixth Form, Charlotte Kelman is a highly talented trumpeter, Ella Kitchen took the lead role in this year’s main drama production and Arnav Rai is a distinguished cricketer. This is but a selection of the many ways in which pupils benefit from an all-round education for life.

Headmaster John Watson commented: "There is a very powerful sense at LGS of pupils wanting to be their best and give their best - together. We are tremendously proud not only of what they achieve but also of who they turn out to be.

"I am very grateful for the inspiration and support they have received from academic and pastoral staff, as well as from their parents – as education is always a partnership.

"Virtually all are looking forward to continuing at LGS and to benefiting alongside newcomers from the small class sizes and the many opportunities of our exciting Sixth Form Aspire programme."

Leicester Grammar School is the Sunday Times' East Midlands Independent School of the Year 2024. It was last year placed top independent co-educational school in the Midlands at A-level and was recently one of eight national finalists for the TES Independent Senior School of the Year award.

It is currently shortlisted for Independent School of the Year for Student Well-being. Its Sixth Form has unsurprisingly proved very popular for September 2024 entry, but there may still be places available for certain subjects.

Any interested potential students should consult the admissions page on the website or contact the school without delay.
