Reviewed: Sanjay's Express

The multi award-winning catering and event management company is back by popular demand.

Beer, naan bread, curry and side dishes on a table

This weekend, Cross Productions’ Marketing Director Sally Smith tried out the flavoursome food of local businessowner Atul Lakhani’s Sanjay’s Express.

Business mogul to the catering and hospitality industry, Atul has built his reputation over the years beyond the Leicestershire boundaries.

Well known for Sanjay Foods with a reputation that proceeds them in the catering industry, Atul has not stopped – and the hard work paid off when the IXL Events Centre was born; a stunning venue set in a stunning 600 acre estate in Warwickshire’s Leamington Spa.

With gourmet food to go, Sanjay’s Express has plentiful to choose from – one of the reasons this particular establishment had many messages asking when it would reopen.

Don’t worry, we did due diligence and tried many dishes! Including; Tandoori Mixed Grill, Butter Chicken, Tarka Daal, and off of the Indo Chinese selection Chilli Paneer but to tell you a bit about our favourites…

Aloo Papdi Chatt. A crunchy combination or Indian crisp wafers, spiced mashed potato, slow cooked chickpeas, finely chopped red onions, coriander then topped with creamy Greek yogurt. Finished with pomegranate seeds, finely diced raw mango, sev crunch and a date and tamarind coulis.

One of the chef’s signature dishes of Pili Pili Chicken. A dry dish of soft and succulent that boasts lots of bold flavours combining paprika, garlic, cinnamon and nutmeg.

The cumin flavoured Jeera rice with a slight floral hint to it and full of flavour Peshwari Nan finished of the feast perfectly.

We are not sure what Atul Lakhani is planning next but we do know we all need to watch this space.

Open Thursdays and Sundays 4pm-9pm and Fridays and Saturdays 4pm-10pm.
