Oadby has a new arrival and it’s smokin’.

The much-anticipated Hickory’s Smokehouse has officially opened its doors, and we were among the first to step inside and experience its irresistible Southern charm. From the moment we arrived, it was clear: this isn't just a restaurant, it’s a full-on experience.

The setting

Tucked away just off the A6, Hickory’s offers the perfect escape from the city centre buzz. Easy to find, yet just far enough off the beaten path, it's a hidden gem ideal for families, groups, or anyone after a relaxed and lively dining experience.

Wooden restaurant table with empty glasses, menus, and condiments. "Hickory's Smokehouse" in Oadby menu and "Drinks" sign in the background. Cozy ambiance.
The service

We were greeted with warmth and enthusiasm. A special shout-out to our server Isla, whose friendly recommendations made our meal all the more memorable, especially her tip to sprinkle “Magic Dust” on the fries. (Yes, you can buy it to take home!)

The flavours

This place takes authenticity seriously. Using an eight-hour smoking process, Hickory’s delivers deep, rich South American flavours in every bite.

Our top picks

Assorted BBQ meats and fries on a wooden table in a cozy restaurant. Red cup and glass jars visible. Warm, inviting atmosphere at Hickory's Smokehouse in Oadby
Starter:

The Smokey Bourbon Bacon Bites, paired with a blue cheese dip, were dangerously moreish.

Main:

The Smokehouse Platte, a meat lover’s dream came stacked with Memphis-style ribs, smoked sausage, pulled pork, bourbon-glazed wings, and the legendary Jacob’s Ladder beef rib. Served with fries, cornbread, house slaw, pickles, and bourbon gravy, it’s the ultimate way to sample everything.

Dessert:

Despite being full, we had to try the Cookie Creation. Three warm chocolate chip cookies served with frozen custard, toffee sauce, and toppings made us wish we hadn’t agreed to share.

Red drink with mint and lemon in jar, pink milkshake with cream in glass. Menu titled "Drinks" and wood table in background. Cozy mood at Hickory's Smokehouse in Oadby
Drinks

Let’s just say, we’ll be back at the bar soon enough. The Strawberry Shake alone deserves its own spotlight.

More than a meal

Hickory’s has gone the extra mile with its family-friendly features: think outdoor play areas and even a mini indoor cinema for the kids.

But it’s not just for families, date nights, girly catch-ups, team get-togethers, and sports fans are all catered for with private rooms and multiple screens.

Final verdict

Hickory’s Smokehouse in Oadby hits all the right notes. Whether you’re in for a feast, a fun family outing, or simply a shake at the bar, it’s a must-visit. Trust us, you’ll need that takeaway box.
