Niche Business Awards: businessman of the year 2020

Leicester's business community came together on January 22 to celebrate the virtual Niche Business Awards 2020.

Simon Winfield - managing director of Red Monkey Play

The Niche Business Awards celebrate the best of Leicestershire, including some of the hardest working and successful individuals, businesses, and charities from the region.

A total of 16 awards were presented at the ceremony, which took place virtually with a roaring 20s theme.

Celebrating Leicestershire's business excellence, one winner was Simon Winfield, who won businessman of the year.

Following the announcement of the Award Simon thanked his wife Debbie along with the team at Red Monkey Play, The Furnley House Foundation, and Leicester Riders Foundation as well as his family and the Award Sponsor Pattersons Commercial Law.

Simon said: “I am delighted to be awarded the Businessman of the Year at these highly respected Niche Magazine Awards, there was very strong competition and to be honoured in this way is very humbling, there are many people who support all aspects of the Leicester & Leicestershire community and to be recognised as one of them is very special."

Simon was recognised for his success in developing Red Monkey Play into one of the UK’s leading suppliers of educational resources and his contribution to the local community through his work with local charities and organisations.

Simon and Red Monkey Play support several local charities and organisations and believe this is a key aspect of being a local business.

Recently Red Monkey Play has undertaken an exciting initiative in designing and building play equipment manufactured from recycled McDonalds Happy Meal toys and has gained national recognition for this work.
