Electrifying!

Tina – The Tina Turner Musical is an absolute rollercoaster of a show, and I mean that in the best possible way. We went to see it at Curve.
The first act is heavy. It doesn’t sugarcoat a thing, tackling Tina Turner’s early life, her struggles, and the abuse she endured. Powerful, emotional, and at times, hard to watch, but done with real sensitivity.
Then, just when you think your heart can’t take any more, the second act swoops in like a shot of adrenaline. Suddenly, we’re dancing, clapping, and belting out like we’re in the band. By the end, the entire theatre was on its feet.
The show is packed with Tina Turner’s biggest bangers – Proud Mary, River Deep Mountain High, and, of course, Simply the Best. Vocals are unreal and choreography is so high-energy I felt out of breath just watching (and I was firmly planted in my seat with a glass of wine).
Special shoutout to the incredible Chizaram Ochuba-Okafor, who played young Anna Mae. This little superstar held her own and she stole the scene every time she was on stage. That voice is powerful and her performance was full of heart and energy, you couldn’t take your eyes off her. An absolute standout and a star.
And then, of course, we have Jochebel Ohene MacCarthy as Tina. Sensational doesn’t even cover it. She was Tina – looked like her, moved like her, and delivered those powerhouse vocals like she’d been possessed by the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll herself.
Yes, the first half hits hard, but the show isn’t all doom and gloom. There’s humour, there’s joy, and by the second act, the whole place turned into one big party. The energy in the theatre was electric and the standing ovation was inevitable.
It’s an absolute belter of a night out. Whether you’ve been blasting Tina’s records since the '60s or you only know her from karaoke night, this show will have you singing and dancing. Trust me, you don’t want to miss this one!
See Tina – The Tina Turner Musical at Curve until Saturday, March 22.
